Glad this got sorted out! I can rename the projects. It seemed like the price would help people tell the difference, but I guess the Lulu staff probably doesn't care as much about that.

I think I'll go back to our regular print on demand guys (amazon) for future stuff. I don't anticipate any more books in the 400+ page range, which is why I had to do the Lulu thing with this project.

At this point everything has been resolved. My color version arrived yesterday.
The whole situation took multiple errors, both at Lulu and by myself.
For the record, here's what seems to have happened.
1) Lulu printed and sent the black and white version instead of the color one. Unfortunately they didn't send any notification of postage or update the order status page.
2) In the meantime I reordered the black and white version again after the file issues were fixed, along with a couple of other books.
3) The other books from that second order arrived, along with the black and white Oathbound Seven from 1). I assumed the whole of my second order had arrived at once.
4) I got onto Lulu customer support to try and work out what happened. They eventually sent a replacement color copy.
5) The black and white Oathbound Seven I actually ordered in that second order arrived three days ago, almost a month after posting. I mistook it for the replacement color copy and got annoyed, and contacted Lulu customer support again.
6) The replacement color version arrived yesterday.

Their customer support thinks it would be too much trouble to return the black and white copy I got in error, so now I have two copies. Nice of them.

A suggestion. A lot of the confusion at Lulu seems to have been because of the similar names. Maybe the color version of the Oathbound Seven project at Lulu could be renamed to something like "Oathbound Seven - Special Color Edition" to help avoid mixups in future?

As of yesterday I've been told that they'll be sending me a replacement copy, shipping soon.
According to them they posted a copy to me on Jan 28. I may be a little cynical, but while I won't complain as long as I finally get the book, I find it odd that the one parcel that seems to have been lost in the post is also the same one where they failed to send a shipping notification, or to update the order status to show the book was sent at all.

In fairness, the other stuff I've bought through Lulu has been promptly shipped, with no problems with the order quality. Typical shipment time to New Zealand has been a week to ten days, which is pretty good.

I really can't say I could recommend Lulu to anyone else. When things go right, it's pretty good. When they stuff up though, they seem to enjoy giving a runaround.
I'm still trying to find out what happened to the color version of Oathbound Seven I ordered in print, back in January.
Today I got told that the black and white version had been cancelled from my original order with a refund, and asking if I was missing the new order of the black and white version I made when the file was fixed.
That's despite specifying that they hadn't shipped the color version, the number of the order it was in, and how much of my money they've got.

Much more of this messing around and I might end up disputing the whole mess with my bank.

The book arrived and looked good. Well worth the $40 even if the all of the art doesn't totally look good in b/w.
Due to the way they trimmed the book, there are some tight margins, so I may make some updates to the master file. Page numbers need to be smaller, and the map needs to be reworked for the binding. Penance got eaten. I tried to puth it as far out as I could, but it wasn't far enough. We need to rework the map and move the globe views tighter in so we can add more space in the middle.

The internal error Lulu sent me was an error code 180, my order details referring to the Black and White version of the book, then the description "Text block will not RIP". Whatever that means. Further emails just said that there was an error preventing it being printed, so they've elected to refund my money on that part of the order. No problems with the color version so far. *crosses fingers*

Hmm. Got a weird email from the printer in French. I don't speak much french, but it appears the black and white book had "Too many images" in it. Not sure what that means. I think standard export settings for color art are 300 dpi and b/w is 450. They apparently have a limit of 300. That's kind of weird, but I'll see what I can do. Anyway, for now the B&W book is off the market for a few days. Sorry about that! I'll post here when stuff gets straightened out.

Two steps forward, one step back!

I don't anticipate any problems, but I haven't gotten my copy yet to check. The color books are expensive, and we pay pretty much what you'd pay to get copies. At this point, we simply don't have the money to buy extra copies. What you might want to do is wait until I get my copy, and then I'll post here if there are any such issues or not. Then once you have the all-clear, you can order one. If you have already ordered one, or can't wait, then we'll have to chat if there's a non-printer-related problem.

Thank you for your patience with me.
We are working on it now. It'll be a print on demand product, meaning that they won't print it until you order it. You'll be able to order off Amazon and they will print/ship within a few days. We will likely have 2 versions, one B/W that's reasonably priced (at like $40) or so, and one full color that'll be over $100. I'm expecting only me and Todd to order that one. Since it's POD, we can't really set our own price, so expect to pay more than for a book in the store. It should be available in a week or two unless there are snags.
