Technically part of Anvil, but not mountainous.
Derek Holland wrote:

Where would be some good places out in the open? Places where no sane people enter?

This is actually a pretty decent question. Cthulhu has always been one of my favorite genres to stick into an otherwise ordinary adventure to add some flavor.
While eclipse and the caves there are probably the obvious choice, a few ideas jumped out at me.

The sea of sand: I think it would be cool to have the winds there unearth something ancient that has laid buried for millenia.

Arena: Likewise, some mining operation could uncover something similar.

The vault: Something could thaw out on the edge of the vault due to some kind of global warming (or as a result of the movement of cryothan). Also definitely a place where no sane people enter.

Really, you could put this kind of thing anywhere. Some cultists could get pulled that then summon something crazy. Who knows. The great old ones aren't exactly gods, so the rules of the forge may not exactly apply to them.

Cthulhu d20 has all kinds of creatures, spells and ideas that could be added to the Forge. I don't mean to convert the setting to horror, just add bits here and there.

The question is where? The undercity, Eclipse and the deep parts of Wildwood are obvious. Where would be some good places out in the open? Places where no sane people enter?

So what do you think?
