So...I have a few questions regarding travel and logistics. The party in my campaign has recently come into possesion of a treasure map that reputedly leads to a legendary pirates treasure supposedly located on a small island called the Widowspeak situated maybe a 100 miles off of the northern coast of the Domain of Arena.

The party is currently located in Penance City, in the Golden Shore Bloodhold. Without going into extended detail, they have managed to secure seaborne passage on a sailing ship called the Fishland Stove that is currently docked in the city of Mourne. The current campaign date is 2/6/951e2 (I use a conventional calendar, rather than the exotic one in OB7, simply to make it easier for me to keep things straight, lazier but easier), and they are supposed to rendevous with their sailing ship in Mourne on 2/15/951e2.

So...my questions are these:

1) Are the mana-powered paddleboats described in the Plains of Penance supplement stilled assumed to be in service?
2) If so, are they really as fast as the table in that book says they are? Page 106 of PoP indicates a riverine speed of 180 miles a day! Magic or no, I'm thinking even 60-90 miles a day would still be pretty impressive.
3) How feasible would it be to attempt to locate such a paddleboat somewhere within the harbor districts of either the Golden Shore or Barrowhold and hire it for travel?
4) If such a paddleboat boat could be located and booked, how much would it cost for a trip all the way to Mourne? 100 gp per person? 250 gp?
5) How many days would it take for such a paddleboat to reach Mourne, given however fast they are likely to be able to travel? 3-4 days? 5-6?

I'm guessing they can, with effort, find such a boat if they still exist, hop on it by 2/8 or 2/9 or so, and still be in Mourne by the 15th of the month, assuming they don't run into any major delay as they travel down the River Ladon towards the northern coast of the domain. Does this sound feasible?

Hi! Sorry, didn't see this earlier.

Actually, the boat speeds thing was one of my main flubs in PoP. I came up with those distances based on a typical MPH multiplied by 24. So a paddleboat may go 7.5 mph, but if it managed to keep that speed up for 24 hours straight, it would get 180 miles in a day. Obviously this won't happen. You'll want to figure out how much of the day the boat will actually be moving. Also, if there are obstacles (like waterfalls) the boats will have to be portaged, or the party will need to switch boats. So maybe 75 miles per day. and I don't have the books near my right now, but I'd guess Mourne is maybe 500 miles off, so getting there on the 15th sounds about exactly right.

The paddleboats still exist, but are bound to local politics. So they party will probably need to make several short trips and deal with different harbormasters at each stop.

BTW, the sailing distances are the worst. These assume that you have fair winds the whole 24 hours. I'd just let sailing ships roll a d100 of how far they go each day in terms of miles, maybe 2d100 if they sail round the clock.
