I really enjoy the Oathbound races (and am stoked to see them get a PFRPG treatment in Oathbound Seven!) but they seem to overshadow the "Core" fantasy races in Oathbound. I guess my real questions are more along the lines of why this is (other than wanting to showcase their awesomeness)? Was there worlds that the flock drew from first or more often to create this phenomena? Are there communities of Dwarves, Elves, and the like that just aren't majorly known? Is there any chance of seeing some of the other worlds these races came from? I love the flavor of the ancient history of the setting and wouldn't mind seeing it cracked open a little more.

Very cool. We haven't seen much of dwarves it feels. I have used an enslaved dwarf settlement in arena as part of a Warlords holdings but otherwise they haven't featured heavily and one of my newest players loves them. It will be good to have something new to show off to him when he (inevitably) makes his first trip there.

We actually don't have much dwarven stuff in eclipse, though we do mention them in the text. Dwarves will get a full treatment in Anvil. Really though, the main reason for suppressing the "core" fantasy races is that we feel enough has been said or done about them elsewhere, and we wanted to give our world a different flavor. It also helps in writing characters that don't get stereotyped, as there are fewer preconceived notions about something unfamiliar.

We never considered much about documenting the home worlds, that's too big a task to tackle, but worth a thought. Many of the main races did come from some of our pre-bastion games. I think some of that stuff may be good to tell in some of the new character narratives we've been doing in Eclipse... and in fact there is a little bit in there. I personally always saw the main races (Dovers, Nightlings, Knuk, Lunars) as being spread across thousands of worlds, and not necessarily all from the same kind of place. Just like humans might come from Earth, Coruscant, Hyboria, or Deep Space 9.

I kind of envisioned spheres of influence, not unlike a sci-fi game where the Flock's home worlds from the before time brushed up against empires of the Dover, Ceptu, etc.. and as such they were "fresh" in the minds of the Flock when the population of the Forge began. I can't help but nod a little to the Spelljammer 2nd Edition setting with this, but it helps me create a greater sense of continuity for my games.
